"Exo-Terra Riverbed Sand"

Seeing how this is intended for aquatic reptiles, I don't foresee any problems with using this in the standard aquarium (apart from cost - Petco is the only store that appears to carry it in my region, and the going rate, 8 USD for five pounds, is a bit steep).

Has anyone utilized it (for any application)? What experiences has everyone had with the following online sources?

I have never used it, but the only issue I see is the super fine nature of it might make it more likely to get into your filter motor than other aquarium sands. Just something to keep in mind. Don't know if it has any buffering capabilities or not.

Could that be remedied with the placement of nylon about the HOB filter intake?

If it can be used in aquatic turtle habitats I don't see a reason why you can't use it with fish, it's not chemically treated or anything, but I would let the aquarium sit for a while before putting fish in it to test for any effect the sand may have on pH. I'd put a sponge over your intake to help keep sand out.

my gf has that in a tank with guppies and cory's there are no problems the sand being as fine as it is, is suprisingly heavy, which help for cleaning and from being sucked up

That is good to know - since I really like the idea of it.

I prefer using a sponge (Like an AC mini) over the intake instead of a pantyhose just because it does not clog quite so quickly, but it acts as a prefilter and has to be rinsed out from time to time.
