2) can you get away without feeding them?

No you don't have to feed them providing you have sufficient lighting, but if you want to feed them in my opinion once a week is sufficient enough.

I never fed mine. They get all they need from the lighting and water column.

Never fed mine either, but if you are dead set on doing so you want to make sure that the pieces are small. Too big of a meal can be stressful to an anemone and can end up taking more energy to digest than it will absorb from the meal.
