Aquarium Advice Activist
One of my figure 8 puffers has a wierd spot. It is active and normal in all other ways, no wierd behavior or anything like that. At the base of its dorsal fin, it looks raw as if the skin is gone, it's all around the base of the dorsal fin, but not on the fin at all, the fin looks perfectly normal. So, it is actually on the body, but just directly around the base of the fin.
I keep the tank brackish at about .010 to .012 spg, nitrites and nitrates as well as ammonia are all well within the recommended level. I keep the tank at about 80 degrees. I have had 2 of these puffers in this 20 gallon tank for about 1 year now. They are about 2 inches each and I have never had a problem like this with them.
Anybody know if this is bacterial or a parisite or something and if it is, what would be the safest remedy?
