Filter change?

So I woke up this morning and found that the ammonia in my tank spiked and now there are foamy bubbles on the water. I was planning on changing the filter this morning but should I wait till the ammonia levels out?
 
Would need more information.

What kind of filter are we talking about?

How long has the tank been established?

What are your water parameters (Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)?

What if any fish or inverts are in the tank?

I am not sure I understand why you would be changing the filter?
 
I have a whisper 10i water filter for a 10 gal tank and it says to change the filter every 4 weeks and it's been established for almost two months. I have a betta 4 tiny Cory cats and 3 mosquito harlequins. I go to this fish breeder to do my water tests just because I haven't had the
