Filter cycle

So currently I have a 55g with 4 goldfish and a Butterfly Koi. And I'm trying to start a Planted discus tank. And re-home my goldies. I am planning on ordering a Fluval 110(500gph) and I have an API filstar xp-med.
I was wondering if I should connect the filstar to my current Goldies' tank to get the filter cycle started?
I currently am using the filter that comes with the tank. (Top fin HOB)

That would be a good way to speed up its cycle. You might also move some filter media from the TopFin. Never used those, so I'm not sure it's possible.)
