Filtration/sump help

So I had bio balls in my sump and all they did was tick me off but anyways the first chamber which they were in is now free suggestions of what I should put in there for filtration . Lr or rubble or???? And after the first chamber I have my culerpa growing in the center then my return pump.

Most people run a skimmer in the first chamber

Yeah...a skimmer and a filter sock.
