Finding out if wood has sap

like the title says. i have a piece of wood that has these shiny spots on it and i'm not sure if it's sap or not. i'm currently soaking it and probably boiling it tomorrow. any help is appreciated

Is the wood still green? Sap on old dried wood, should boil off. If the wood isn't dried then don't use it in the tank.

well it's driftwood found on the beach but it still floats so it seems like a new piece of washed up driftwood, and i got it while it was dry. will all the sap in the wood dissolve if i boil it long enough?

no but after soaking it for 12 hours, the shiny spots became white, maybe fungus?
