Hi guys!

My partner and I have adopted two fintails. Since we are not always home, we have an automatic feeder that feeds them a small amount two times a day (9.30AM/3.30PM). Also with the previous owner who fed them from hand, the fish do not always see their food, so it falls to the bottom. I can see that the fish are digging in the gravel grains to find the food pellets once they smell it, but I am wondering if they then also really eat it all? What is your experience with this? I would like to prevent an excess of feed/pollution in the water.

I know a clear cue can help the fish knowing it is feeding time and to come to the right place. I was thinking of making a small device that would alarm the fish it is feeding time. Would that be necessary or do they eat from the gravel?

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
Tjitske
