Ok so my uncle has had an established tank for many many years.
Could I take some of his filter media and just seed my tank?
Would I still need to buy some pure ammonia?
The only place I found pure ammonia is Ace and they only sell in bulk. I would hate to buy all that just to use a very tiny fraction of it. I have heard of methods using shrimp or fish food. Any help is appreciated.

With a good supply of seed material you can establish a new tank with not much headache at all.
I don't fishless cycle any more because I do have established tanks and there isn't much of a cycle when I seed from them.
My last tank setup, 29 gal. never showed amonia or nitrite at all, just like it was already cycled. I put a used filter cartridge in its filter and a couple of tank decorations from my 75 gal.
You can always use a raw shrimp and a sprinkle of flake food for amonia source.
