I have a 48 inch wide 75 g tank. Its light fixture has 2 24" T8 Aqua-Glo tubes which were bought used. I understand that these are 18000K tubes. I find the tank "dull" to say the least. I'm not sure if this is because of the age of the bulbs, the 18000K colour, or simply that I need more wattage power.

I am stocking the tank with mostly rainbows and want a light that brings out their orange, red and blue colours.

A different forum recommended a full spectrum 5000K light with a high CRI. Something like the Philips F17/T8/950. I can probably get this from a local supplier who will order them in.

Do the experts here agree with this recommendation or recommend a 6500K bulb or even something else?

Oh well, so I bought 2 Philips f17/t8/tl850's from a hardware/electronics store. The 950's are not in stock anywhere in my area. Tank is MUCH brighter. Well worth the money, which was less than half the price of a chain LFS.
