I have a 100 gallon planted discus tank. I used a white substrate with white sand on top. I have two questions. One is, why is the white substrate and sand turning yucky colors--brown, yellow etc. It started to do this before we planted anything.
Second I read that fluorite helps the plants. I also am an amateur rock hound. Fluorite can be cut into pretty shapes and sizes and the crystals can be different colors and sizes. I wanted to use some of these pieces of fluorite around my plants for decorations and to help with growth, but I don't know if the rocks will kill any of the fish. Is the gravel the same thing as the rocks? Has anyone used the fluorite in its natural form? Thanks ahead of time for trying to help me. I can't find an answer anywhere.
