For my birthday ( in November. But I plan early!) I would like to make the jump to canister filter. Are they easy to set up and maintain? And I wouldn't have to drill any holes in the tank right? I've heard good things about fluval canister filters. What one would you suggest for a 33g? I was considering to keep a internal filter if you guys think I need it

No, you wouldn't need to drill any holes. The hoses for the filter go over the edge of your tank. For a 33g, I would either get a Fluval 206 or 306. I have both the 206 and 306 and love them.

Thanks max! Since you have a "apisto addiction" maybe you should check out my thread under cichlids? :D
