I Am New Too - But Soooo Far :)

Hi

Last month I bought my first pair of German Blue Rams and I Love Them!
In my area - they are hard to find and there was little to no info on them.
This website is Amazing - Thanks All :)

I lucked out :) My set is male and female. They are doing all the mating
rituals as described - including the cleaning of smooth spot, the fluttering
together, and the highly protective guarding of their space - in which they
do in shifts lol

The first mating ritual produced eggs I think - but I guess they got infected
and they cleaned off the smooth spot. Then they stopped the ritual and went
back to being crabby cichlids.

I decided to add 3 more females .... oooooops. Now - the female decided
to flirt with the male by showing all the colors - and it worked, because
he became He-Man Stud and did the same.

Problem is - now they take shifts in chasing away the other new females.
Sooooo .... I made a few cocunut caves, added some plastic tall pants to
at least hide the newbs from the mating pair, and it seams to work a little.
At least the new females have a place to rest now and then, but they are
also showing interest in my male - by tempting him .... he almost seams to
fall for it at times - The Pig :p

My question is - Are Rams Caves dwellers? - my Rams dont seam to care for
them at all - maybe because they are still new to the tank.

And .... Will they all get along? - I am hoping the original pair adapt.

Thanks Everyone :) Your The Best :)

Almost forgot ....

Nobody mentioned this - so I figured I might :)

I do weekly water changes of about 25%
I also add API Aquarium Salt to my 35 gallon tank (They Love It)
And - A Cap of API Melafix after each water change.

I dont know if this is good or bad - but my fish seam to Love It.

Please correct me if I am wrong :) Thanks

I was also under the impression that the RAM would use caves, but from what I've seen so far they don't use caves at all.

There should be only one pair in the tank unless the tank is very big and have natural barriers for them to claim territories. The mating pair will bully everyone else.

Would love to get some of these gorgeous fish but no one sells them around here : /
