cannot say for sure but i would like to put $5 on it 
it is much less likely to happen in captivity.
the best yoou can do is to keep salinity as constant as humanly possible and dose iodine in tiny daily quantities (8 drops/day/50gallons). plus target feedings may help provide the energy needed to regenerate the arm. JMHO

i had a sandsifter with a leg bitten off at the same point and it grew back just fine took about a month
