Is it advisable to have a full covered top with glass lids and plastic backstrips adn use a 2 X 150 watt metal halide fixture? I need the lids for the fish not to jump as I'm planning on several wrasses and the light is coming with a 75g setup I'm picking up this week.

this is all for my 90g fowlr build if it matters. The light fixture has legs but is still kinda close to the top of the tank.

The big question is will it melt the plastic?

Thanks everyone, looking forward to a response as I don't know what I should do. LOL

I wouldn't worry as much about the plastic melting as the glass shattering from getting hot then being splashed with water. I would not use it.

I almost forgot, the guy who sold me the tank has a secondary glass shield underneath the MH. I will post a picture when I get it if that doesn't make any sense.

thanks for the response, that's kinda what I figured. But maybe the shield will help?
