Glass Top for 75 gal tank?

Hello,

I have a mature 75 gal reef tank with metal halide lighting. I have been keeping the glass top on my tank for years. The other day I started thinking that may not be the right approach.

Should I keep or remove the glass top?

IMO you should remove it. For 2 reasons I might suggest. 1) It promotes poor gas exchange at the surface lowering your PH. No top and good surface aggitation will cause your PH to be at a heathy reading. 2) They trap heat from your lighting causing high temps. Esp. with that MH lighing. My opinion is to ditch the cover.

If you're worried about jumpers, try using some egg crate in place of the glass tops.
