Glosso Overgrown... now what?

After a couple months of growth, my glosso carpet is thick, and catches bits of riccia, etc that grow and make a mess... so, how do I get this under control? Rip it all up? Trim it? Vaccuum the carpet?

Wonder if there's a nice looking ground cover that requires less maintenance.
