Gnats/bugs in dry start method?

I'm doing the DSM in one of my tanks and noticed a bunch of small flies flying around in there and some holes in the leaves of my plants. How do I treat this without flooding the tank? I'd like to leave that as a last resort as to allow the other plants to grow a little more first

You can try the fruit fly traps and sticky traps.
