I'm in the process of cycling my first tank now. I have been testing the ph and it seems to be rather high, around 8, I tested cold water right out of my tap and it was in the 7.5-7.8 range. I figure my tank will settle down into the upper 7 range once the cycle is finished

I want 2 types of fish in the tank. I was thinking 3-5 black skirt tetras as one type, what would be a few other (easily available) suggestions that would go well with the tetra in a high ph tank?

Here are some suggestions:
Rainbow fish
African rams
American rams
Mollies
Bolivian Rams
Glow light tetras
Cories

These have all been healthy in 8.0 Ph as I found surfing the web
Also I found most hardy fish will be able to adjust to the water condition

I don't think that any of those fish would be a good in a 10g... I'm not even sure that many of those are actual species of fish.

Platies and guppies are great hard water fish. Honestly, most tetras would be better off in larger tanks. You might find yourself much more limited by the tank size and less so your water parameters.
