Well, every year I'm keeping so-called freshwater aquariumfish outdoors from spring till mid fall. Yesterday afternoon I've harvested the last two tanks.

The last two tanks contained blue star endlers, staeck endlers, poecilia obscura, white cloud mountain minnows and swordtails.

Love all the fry pics! Sorry if this is a dumb question but what do you do with the fry you harvest?

Hi,

Well, the harvesting contains fry, juveniles and adults to start with.... So, not just fry.
And it's not a dumb question at all...

There's a selection that I'll keep for further breeding. Some will go to the community tank. And all the rest will be sold or even donated. There are so many people who would like to have them...
There are even some schools in the neighbourhood who love to have them. We have also a system overhere that schools can be given a fishtank from a breeder or an lfs. Those schools ask certain breeders to sponsor them by donating fish, fishfood or supplies. Board, teachers and children love the idea to have fish at school. Also very practical during biology lessons.

Getting rid of them ain't a problem overhere...

Take care,
"S"

I did this same thing this year with White Cloud minnows and started with 12 and easily had 60-70 by the end but then we had a freak hailstorm with golfball size hail that killed them all, I couldn't get out to save them safely. :( Glad yours worked out though! :)

Well, I do this every single year...
And like last year also this year I had those white cloud minnows outside. And they can withstand very low temps...
But the weather forecast told very bad weather to come this week. I wasn't in the mood to catch those fish while it's cold and stormy outside. So, I got the last ones out this past monday afternoon.

I still have females which are carrying. Curious if they'll spawn in their new tank inside.

Never had such bigsized hail overhere... In a way it's a real shame that your fish didn't survive! But are you keeping also fish inside?

Yeah I also keep a tank inside. How do you set up your outdoor tanks? I use a large black rubbermaid tub and fill it with floating plants and add the fish and change the water %50 halfway through the time.

Very simple!
I use polyethyleen tanks. I only put substrate on the bottom and use pond plants. Nothing more! I only add water if the rain doesn't fill it sufficiently. I don't actually have water changes. So, only adding some to keep the water at the right level.
But I also have two glass cubes outside which I also use as outdoor tanks. But the same set up as the PE ones.
I don't air them for the wind does all the work. A complete natural filtration.

In a way I'm enjoying outdoor tanks a bit more than my tanks inside. For those outdoor tanks looks much more natural to me... What a shame that summer doesn't last all year...
