Hawaiian feather duster

Hello all,
I have a question regarding my feather duster. I got it a few days ago at my LFS. it seemed healthy at the time. I also introduced to my tank at the same time two clownfish. Needless to say I had a little spike of ammonia with the addition of the fish. However, my question is this, my feather duster has now begun to only open up at night when my lights are off. Why is this? The only issue with my water right now is that my ammonia is at just under .225 ppm. Could this be the reason why? I did a PWC today to fix the water, but my feather duster is still a no show. I do have two peppermint shrimp in my tank but have never seen them near the feather duster. Also, during the day, the top of the tube almost looks like it has been pinched closed. Is that normal? What can I do? This poor guy is going nocturnal on me! Please help!

Just a note, this is where he moved to. I didn't place him. Figured he find his way to his preferred spot. And he has anchored himself in there pretty well. He is not pinched on any rocks or anything (I have checked).

PLEASE HELP as I don't want to lose him!

Please help. I know it isn't my clowns because he stays open for them at night like they are hosting it. It just seems like he doesn't like light. Is this an indication for something???

I only had my feather duster a few days before the worm crawled out and went missing, but mine stayed open all day and night it seemed. I woudlnt think that he has any issues, maybe he's still just acclimating.

Lol. This feather duster is driving me nuts. It's nocturnal. And I think it's having an identity crisis. It's actually letting the clowns host it. It's staying wide open for the two clowns to go in there and rub around. The clowns aren't nipping at it or anything. So I believe the duster is safe. But I thought if a fish interrupted the duster that it was supposed to close up!

Ok. So the duster is still nocturnal and letting the clowns host it. What am I doing wrong? I don't think it likes me. Lol.

As long as it seems happy enough I'd just let him be.

he is opening and getting food and nutrients so he should be ok. The light thing is weird though, never heard of that. lol

I have been wanting to get a feather duster but am still researching them they feed on little things in the water the clowns might be stirring up things at night for it to eat.
