Help with this

Can anyone tell me what this is? It is dark purple and comes off very easily.

Looks like sponge. I normally peel any black sponges off because they aggressively overgrow invertebrates I want.

If it comes off easily then I guess it would be cyano. It sure does look like coralline though. Does it come off in flakes or slime like consistency.

It comes off in chunks and is very slimy to the touch. Should this be something I should be aggressively trying to get rid of?

Ha, didn't realize you might've been talking about the actual rock coloration and not the much darker "sponge" looking growths? Anyways, I agree with Mel that it looks like corraline if you mean the bright purple rock.

No actually I was wondering about the darker sponge like substance that is over growing the rock, and covering the Coraline that was already there. Sorry about the confusion
