Yesterday I noticed my heater had stopped working. My tank is normally 78 and had dropped to 70. Yikes! Went out first thing this AM and got a new heater.

How quickly can I increase the temp do you think?

The funny thing is that the water is 70 degrees. I set the heater for 74 degrees but the heater didn't come on....? So I set it to 75. Is that too high too fast?

Tips please. Thanks!

A heater well normally slowly rase the water temp unless you have really delicate fish all you have to do is put the heater in and set it to the temp you want.

Oh ok, great, thanks! No I have a community tank so I think that should be fine.

When I have adjusted temp I aim for +\- one degree an hour.
Most heaters will adjust to the temp you set over a 24 hour period.
Check with a thermometer though, the scale on the heater isn't always reliable.
For example right now my heater is set at 74, but the actually temp is 79.
