how high should my metal halides be off the water

I was thinking 12 inches. People with them tell me your expirences with them....

i dont have any expirence with em but i think 12" is enough because if they get wet thell burst

oh in that case id say bewteen 6-12" you may see your temp heat up and more evap because of the heat they throw off

i think bewteen 6-12 is good fiddle a bit your self so you can find what works well with your tank

It depends on the wattage of the light and depth of your tank. If your tank is over 20 inches deep and the lights are 175 watts or lower then approx. 8-10 inches is fine. If the wattage is higher or the depth is shallower then you'll want to back them off a few more inches to prevent your tank from over heating.
