I was just going through my older aquarium pictures and didn't realize how different my tank looks today vs the day I set it up. I thought it would be nice to see how others have transformed over time. I know there are many treads with pictures that show the whole progression, but I believe it is more outstanding to see them side by side. So if you could, try and find the earliest picture you have and place it right next to your current setup, so we can all see just how much it has changed.

Here is my 75 gallon tank on the day I added fish to it (7-21-06)

Didn't change that much. (all in 4 months)

EDIT: added in a progressive pic.

My 55g was setup over a year ago:

Mine have changed alot. :) I still want to change the substrate in the 29g to something dark...eventually I will...

Good idea RK... I was just thinking of starting a similar thread.

So here we are back in June 2002:

Then after the decision to go hi-tech, here we are at the beginnings of my tanks "rebirth" in early Sept 2006:

Finally here we are as of this week, late Nov 2006:

I am hauling the family over to my parents house this evening and am going to see if I can find some much older photos of the tanks I used to have...

** EDIT ** removed a few images :)

Just a suggestion. Perhaps everyone can post a separate before and after thread? Or, if you can, provide a photolog of your tanks progression. I know a few exist already. Be nice to see everyone in there.

In the meantime, great pics guys.

PS - rkilling: Do you still have the bala?

JChillin, I think RK was shooting for a good long thread of simple before and after shots or abbreviated progressions.

At least I think that's what he meant:

I like the idea, but I also agree that if you have enough of an untold story to post a separate thread, that would also be interesting too.

RK - I think I see the two balas in your latest shot. Did your tank never know plastic plants?

JustOneMore20 - Nice plastic to full-on planted progression!

Oh, just wait till I get back to work on Monday!!!! Have I got some amazing 'before' and 'after' shots of my 29. It's the first tank I set up after I "saw the light" and it has totally transformed. When I got my 55, I already knew the score, so it really hasn't changed much. Dude, I will totally post my pics on Monday!! LOL

That was the point. I can also agree that a progressive form would be cool, as long as it isn't too progressive.

I added them for the sake of the larger one, but it didn't work out. So I had to get ride of the larger one. I am on the fence as to take them back or not.

Not in this tank. I will post some of my 28 later. (hopefully I can find some real early shots of that tank, goldfish, plastic plants, and all.)

Ya, I am pretty bad with selecting just a few pics... did edit mine down a bit to better fit the format :)

I couldn't find any real good pics of my 28 gallon tank at an early stage, just wasn't anything worth taking pictures of.

This is the 28 gal right after we got ride of the goldfish. (11/05)

Changing over going towards planted.

fully planted. (now my fry/shrimp tank)

I was able to find one pic of my first tank. It was a 10 gallon with two goldfish, plastic plants, and black/green shiny gravel. (9/03) (pretty lame I might add, notice the background was coming off and we didn't care)

Yes, that is exactly what he meant. What I meant was a tank log. The tank log shows the progression of the tank. Included in the log is all pertinent information about it, including all experiences (good or bad). There are a few in planted aquascaping now and it would benefit the membership to have a diverse selection to view.

By all means, this "before" and "after" thread is a great idea.

Here is the 55 gallon the 1st week( Feb 06 )

My 2.5g at set up in August. An attempt at low tech, sunlight only tank.

progress.jpg

Later in the summer. Some plants are doing ok, some had to get moved out. No algae though!

101606.jpg

10/16: My tank had to be moved away from the window. Poor photography, but there's not much to show here anyways.

*drumroll*

112406.jpg

The tank as of this morning, after I pulled out all the watersprite so Cameo could actually swim around. I broke down and got a 13w light, but its still no ferts, no CO2. BTW, the myrio in the left front needs to go so I can aquascape better, so if anyone wants it, its yours. Also, I'm thinking the crypt should be just left of center, in the front, no?

Yes...if you place it where the rock currently is, perfect. The tank looks great with myrio and I would keep it but then again, I'm classified as a "collector". :)

Due to filtering I cannot see your pics IceH2O...but I will check back later.

Edit: Excellent!

My 75 when I first set it up (was replacing a 20Gal)

And as of April

Tank isn't that photogenic right now as I'm waiting on some non-yellow lights to be shipped.

The earliest picture I have of the tank and one taken today.

JustOneMore20 - Nice plastic to full-on planted progression!
Thank you! I'm very opposed to plastic plants now. :) I had a mix in the 29g when i set it up, just to give the neons some cover while I saved up to order more live plants. From now on, my tanks will be fully live from the beginning!

Awesome tanks everyone!

Dug up a couple of old shots of my 20. It's in transition mode at the moment, not looking it's best, don't know if it ever will!
