I am in the process of cycling a small 10 gallon tank.
I have placed two siamese flying foxes in the dechlorinated water and have set up all necessary equipment.
At placement into the tank, my pH registered at about a 7 (neutral).
Less than a week later, the pH was about a 7.6

possible explanations?
Characteristic of ammonia spike?
would a nitrite spike result in lower pH?
any information will be greatly appreciated
thanks!

Do you have any limestone in your tank? Or crushed coral? What do you use as substrate? Many rocks increase the pH of your water, and I'm guessing thats what happened, and a nitrite spike or ammonia spike would not affect your waters pH, although pH drops slowly over time in established tanks.

I use the same gravel that I use in my other established 110 gallon tank
It has never altered pH before.
Thanks anyway
any other suggestions?

Did you alter the PH to get it to 7.0 or did it come straight out of your tap that way?

If you altered the PH to lower it, quite often the additives used will stop working and the PH will shoot back up.

How long do you let your tap water stand before testing?

Whats your PH run on the 110g est. tank?
