just out of curiousity... how did the plants do with the temp changes and such?

welcome to the club... just got to the point of lowering my temps after having it around 88-90 for 3 weeks in my 180 gallon... talk about the most frustrating crap... but they say you keep freshwater you will at some point have ich... no ifs ands or buts... luckily the remedy is pretty cheap... just raise the temp...
