In your opinion sand cleaner

I havent had any luck finding a bottom feeder for my 55g that actually eats the left over food that accumulates on the top of the sand in your opinion what is the best fish for the job?

Have you tried Cory cats? Mine eat up leftovers like crazy!

ive tried corys but they were eaten by my 9" Pearl Geophagus i guess they werent fast enough?

Hmmm... I don't know then. Most bottom feeders are pretty small. I've got pictus cats but they don't do that great of job and get a little bigger but their small when you buy them. Maybe feed a little less?

A school of some type of synodontis would be your best bet.
