Is a sump needed for a 20g nano reef?

Im going to use a protein skimmer and have a good clean-up crew as well about 20-25 lbs of rock. I don't want to use a sump if i don't have to. Would there be another filtration system i can have other than just a protein skimmer? I'm also using 2 Koralia 425 Powerheads as circulation. I meant nano reef in the title not nana!

No as long as you have good circulation a good skimmer you can get by with no problem with no sump
I was going to ask what a Nana was lol
