Is this ok? Quick answer please?

Ok so my 2.5 gallon filter carbon cartridge is literally CAKED with algae. It is perfectly clean other than that, but its basically one big block of algae (I have no idea why my cartridges attract so much algae)

So I TOOK OUT the 2.5 cartridge and put the algae-covered cartridge in my main tank for my ghost shrimp, fry and snails to eat at. They seem to love it

Will this stain my water in any way? It looks like this






The big green thing is the 2.5 gallon algae covered cartridge. There is even a ghost shrimp eating at it already!

ok iv had the same problem i did what you did and i didnt have any problems its from a hang on filter im guessing
