johannii or maingano?

hi thee, i have posted on another forum, but no joy as yet, so i amasking you guys

My husband bought home a little guy who was being picked on at Wally WOrld in the "assorted cichlids" tank... sigh...

now thankfully he looks like a purebred fish, but i am not sure what to make of him..
can you guys help me out here? TIA

My vote is for Maingano because of having all that light blue coloring on him. The Johannii I have seen don't have as much light blue and the stripes aren't defined like that.

LMAO.. that's EXACTLY why i came here... i googled the different fish, and came across so many mislabeled ones and then THAT!!! Didn't know what to think.

As it is, i thought he was a maingano, so his name is Mong. Thanks for confirming guys.. lol dk..

Definitly a maingano...Blue johannis don't have such clear stripes 99% of the time...
