Jungle vals regrow?

I ordered some Jungle vals online from ebay and when it finally came most of the leaves were brown and within 2 days they all browned and practically fell off. I emailed the guy for a replacement but he said no because I didnt send him a picture of it in the bag, so I was wondering if the leaves would grow back if I still have the roots.

How should I clip it off do i just rip the dead pieces off

Okay so that how the roots look. I was wondering what is that long greyish piece sticking out on the right? Should I plant that part in the substrate? It seems to be soft on the bottom and hard on the top should I cut the soft part off?

They are pretty brown. I'm not sure it will recover.

Well that is not the best news D; Should I just toss it?

I have had the same thing happen to some of my Vals. I pulled and tossed them to avoid having the rot in my tank.
