Is it okay to plant these in gravel? How much light do they need? Would these do allright in a pond, I live in zone 8B?

Not sure what 8B is but Vals will grow in most substrates with minimal light as long as they stay relatively warm (>72F) and are not predated upon (African cichlids et al). :)

Oh, I think Jaxom is talking about the outdoor 'growing zone' his part of the country is rated at, which is a guideline for what terrestrial plants you can keep.

as long as it stays warm enough, I think the Vals would be ok. your zone really doesn't apply to aquatic plants. However I would not expect vals to survive the winter.

I don't know what kind of vals (they where a gift from someone who had to unload all the plants from their pond) I have but they do fine for the winter (iced over pond occasionally even) & I am in zone 7a.
