I have a 5 ft 58w bulb but im running it with a 30 w power unit, it lights ok but is it producing 58w of light or only 30w, also will this damage the bulb.

what an odd sized bulb ... I've never seen a 5 foot over here in the states - must be a european thing

your correct that a 30w "power unit" or ballast will only produce 30w of light, perhaps a small bit more.

I wouldn't worry about the bulb being damaged, however, I would make sure the power unit is not overheating because it has to drive a much larger bulb then it's designed for.
