hello im thinking of starting a 55 g reef tank. What set of lights would i need to have a good reef tank but also be not that expensive. thank you

Well, to be honest, your going to have to do a little research and then re-ask that question. We need to know what kind of corals you would like to keep. The 3 general categories are Softies, LPS, SPS. Your lights are going to range from about 200.00 (not including bulbs) up to 900 or more. Really depends on what your wanting to keep. I would say a reasonable range to expect is 300.00 to 400.00.

Figure out what you want to keep...then we can help you.

The coralife 4x 65 watt 48"aqualights are a very nice power compact set up for a basic reef tank. With these lights you could keep a variety of soft corals and some LPS corals as well. If you wanted to try SPS corals and clams than you would need to step up to Metal Halide lighting. Try and see what you want to keep and make a decision from there.
