Is it white and cottony, or like hair?
it's honestly hard to say. i think i can make out what looks like individual strands of hair, but it's thick. i'm not really bothered by it, but i'm worried it's strangling the roots of the bolbitis.
Almost any type of algae eater will eat it
the sae i have does a good job elsewhere (not the glass), but he doesn't touch this stuff. i dont want to cycle again so i'm going to stop the maroxy treatment, but how do i know if my plants are at risk?

if you have an algae eating fish, and they're not eating the stuff, then it might be an algae that they don't like and not a tastey fungus

the hair algae I've got likes to grow on leaves, gravel, fixtures, etc... and of course, nothing eats it.

I used Algon nitrate remover behind my filters and the black brush algae cleared up PDQ. There is still some residual that is not growing at all. The Algon worked pretty well.
