From what I understand, they can be quite aggressive to their own species and it is not recommended to have 2 in less than 30 gals. This is not from my own experience, rather the experiences of others that have kept them.
I agree with anne; all of the schistura family of river loaches need plenty of space and fast flowing water conditions. The schistura I keep are actually very social but they are also one of the 'naughtiest' fish I keep! Very dominant in the tank. They've never fought because there's plenty of space for them, but they would if kept in smaller conditions.
Schistura generally max out at 4" or so, and need plenty of swimming space to dart around in. I wouldn't even keep one in a 10G
