Moss-like plant to cover top of driftwood?

The top of my driftwood is very close to my light. My driftwood is high, not wide. This area is always getting more algae build-up nomatter how many times I scrub it off. Do you think it would be a good idea to put a moss-like plant on the top of my driftwood so the algae would stop growing? Or would I have to cover the whole peice of driftwood?
 
How about Java moss? And it's not supposed to need that much light, either.
 
So putting it just on the top of my driftwood would be ok then....just hold it down with fishing line?
