Has anyone ever seem this? It grew very quickly. He eats fine and never seems bothered, but ice always wondered. ?

My science teacher had a few gold fish in her classroom and the fantail had a huge lump on its head. It had been there with the lump all year and was perfectly fine through the whole school year.

My fish has a large mass

He is still alive but the growth has doubled in size. I am not sure what to do. ☺️? I hope it isn't painful.

My fish has a LARGE MASS, help!

Sounds like it's not going away? How long has it been there now?

General consensus is there is no over the counter cure. But if you think a lost cause I'd try maybe salt or MB / MG and see if any difference. Would do a web search first to see if anyone has had any luck.

Might have to look into a specialist to remove it if you want to spend the money

There's a guy and he did surgery on his goldfish by himself to remove a tumor it was successful too not saying you should try it but just letting people know

I would suggest the lump needs to be removed if it starts impacting on your fish's quality of life - eg ability to swim, eat, rest, and if he seems to be distressed (eg sitting at the bottom of the tank with clamped dorsal fin).

A vet here in Melbourne (Australia) moved a similar type of lump from a goldfish, and the little guy did just fine. It was quite expensive, though. Not sure what other options there are.

I would suggest tying a rubber band around the growth until it falls off. Seriously worth a try, do it tight.

Well i think it's already hurting and maybe cutting the circulation off to something that doesn't belong shouldn't hurt.

Thanks

Thanks everyone! I've had him for 6 years and he swims just fine and goes crazy at feeding time! However, I do think it needs to be removed. I want him happy. Should I use Clove oil to sedate him a little to get the band around it? I can't lose him. I lovehim very much....but it keeps getting bigger! ?

Do you have the resources to see a vet? Might be a safer option and one less painful to the little guy.

I looked up banding in calves although we converted bulls to steers a different way.

First thought would be a vet.

Second would be that if a vet cannot be afforded then I don't know if banded would work on a thick mass. The band would cut off some blood supply, then I guess it would work its way in (either by adjusting or being very tight to start with). Which seems a high risk of infection.

If the band went on a very thin area eg say the lump popped out of a few scales and then expanded out like a ballon; a band on the 'ballon neck' would I think do better.

Just some theoretical thoughts.
