Need quick answer - 7" algae eater in a 15 gal

Today I bought a 15 gallon (60 litre) tank (second handed)

They had filter + heating + light, 5 platy's and 1 orange/yellow (18cm) 7 inches approx algae eater!!

I was like WOW when I saw that one home.

I think he's too big for a 23 inch tank

(the tank is now cycling) while the fish are in a cooking pan of 1-2 gall -.-

So Is this algae eater too big for the tank???
