Today I got a good deal on an aquaclear protein skimmer. I bought it for $50. I plugged it in and it already started to get some good skimmate. Are aquaclears pretty good?
They do not have the best reputaion in the hobby, as a matter of fact the first thing I thought when I read your post..."Imagine what a good skimmer can do." However, don't look a gift horse in the mouth, if it is doing a good job or better job than your last skimmer, then more power too it!!
I have one that does a decent job. It came with a Rio 200 I think. As soon as I trashed the Rio and substituted a Maxi Jet 900 with a venturi kit, it did much better. While they're not a great skimmer, IMO, I think they are much better than a Seaclone. For $50, I don't think you made a bad move.
