Hi all, I have just purchased a 25g tank from eBay. To home my black more currently in a 5gallon.

Question is, should I sterilise the new tank before the swap. Also what's the best way to set it up and swap it over?

Thanks

I would wash it out with warm water.

Allow it to air dry.

Then

Add substrate.

Fill with un-treated tap water.

If you have a new filter for the tank add it at this point and allow it to run with the un-treated tap water. This will help to sterilise everything.

Add your dechlorinator at this time.

Add any plants or decorations from your 5g.

Add your Blackmoore into new tank and also add the filter from the 5g into the 25g tank.

Adding the filter will help the cycle within your new tank. You could even take the insides of the filter apart and add it into your new filter.

My gf is planning on using a steriliser (like for baby's bottles)

This be ok?

Depends what you are planning to sterilise in it.

The procedure I outlined above is enough.

Depending on what was in it you might want to consider cleaning it with white vinegar to remove any buildup or staining, but otherwise I agree with jon. Dont add the very hot water from a sterilizer if the glass is cold or it could crack from the sudden temperature change (I did this once).
