I might be getting a larger tank. I previously own a 20 gallon. I know someone who I offering a free setup. I was wondering if I should get sand or gravel again. The fish I have are the following;
2 Angels
1 Gourami
1 cichlid
2 tiger barbs
3 black skirts
1 Pleco
4 snails total
Some of the fish I will be giving away to my younger brother. I don't quite know what fish I should keep and wether I should stay with pebbles/gravel or switch to sand

I'd get the 55 if you can get it. A 30 gal with all of those fish would be too crowded. What kind of pleco, do you know? If it's a Common it can grow up to two feet and will need a much larger tank (125+ gals).

Also what kind of gourami? If it's a dwarf, you're ok but if it's a larger type it would have to go unless it's in a larger tank.

What type of Cichlid? Some can get very large.In the pic it looks like a Kenyi Cichld? If so it can get up to 6" and would need the 55.

Once you decide which tank size you're getting it'll help more to pinpoint final stock. There's too much of a difference between the two tank sizes to figure out stocking until we know what we're working with.

I'd say go with sand; the pleco would probably prefer sand to gravel anyway and to me it looks more natural than gravel.

My dad said he wants me to get a 30 gallon because the 55 won't fit in my room. I decided that I am selling all the other fish or giving them over to some of my friends
