Hi. I cycled a 15 gallon in 4 weeks starting with 4 harlequins. I changed water maybe twice throughout and even then it was only 25% each time.
I never managed to record a nitrite reading and ammonia stayed at 0.25ppm throughout.
I think the use of prime may have saved your fish on this occasion. Nitrite readings as high as 2ppm can be fatal to fish depending on the size and species. Thankfully, prime detoxifies all the nasties for 24-48 hours and you did lots of water changes which was good
