Is there a greater benefit with continuous overflows (like CPR) versus the tube siphon overflows?

I have never owned one myself, but I've always been suspicious that the CPR style overflows with the square corners would trap air bubbles more easily than a U-tube overflow. In addition, if you needed to increase the amount of flow through a U-tube overflow you can simply make the drain bigger and add a second U-Tube. You don't have the option of adding another U-tube with the CPR style overflows.

U-tubes ....much safer. They don't rely on a PH to keep the the siphon going.
