So I’ve never been very good at keeping plants alive long enough to have this problem before but have a sword plant that has gotten crazy big over the last year, I’m not sure what would be best for pruning. Nip off lower or upper leaves? Close to base as possible? Also don’t remember what kind of sword plant this is lol.

Remove entire leafs cutting them off as close to the bottom as you are able.

Personally that plant looks excellent as it is. Why do you want to prune it?

Appreciate the reply! Lately I have been having to prune out rotting leaves which I am suspecting is due to not getting light because so many stacked on top of each other in certain areas so was thinking not a bad idea to “thin” it out a bit. Just didn’t want to kill the thing doing it wrong lol

Remove the outer leaves as the new ones tend to grow in the centre.

You can also lift the entire plant out and cut the crown in half (the bit at the bottom where all the leaves stem from) then you will have 2 x sword plants and you can put the second one on the other side.
