As established in another thread, I'm brand new to aquariums, and currently have a 29 gallon tank. I've got its lights on a timer to run from 5pm to 10-11pm. The tank is in an area that gets little/no light during the night, and I'm wondering if that's okay or do these guys need some kind of nightlight during the night?

As always, many thanks in advance!

No night lighting is needed. If you want to simulate a full moon you can get some of those blue LEDs that have hit the market by storm but nothing is 'needed'.

I would suggest maybe a longer photo period during the day.

I have one of those blue LED lights and they are pretty sweet, but as fishfreek said, nothing is needed at night. MY fishies went a little more than a year with no light at all at night and they were just fine. And also, did you mean 5 am, or 5 pm? You should leave your light on a little longer that 5 hours a day....
