Ok I've done my water changes most of you know I'm no stranger to water changes. I wasn't do for one but had a few buddy's over the house and of course... They saw the 2 dead fish after admiring my tank for awhile (man I felt dumb)
Anyway, I said to myself something must be going on BUT all the fry are fine and none have died and all fish appear hungry when walking by the tank so.... With that I tested the water everything was in check but pH, I've NEVER EVER had a pH issue since day 1. Tap pH is fine, I use crushed coral in a media bag in my AC 110. I also use buffer(Malawi) anywhoo.... I called a buddy who works at a LFS he knows everything you'll ever need to know about African Cichlid's. He told me to perform 10-20% water changes and dose the buffer at less then half the recommended, then perform another water change and dose slightly more and slowly bring the pH up over the next few days and test everyday and just monitor the fish. I trust him. Question I have is why does it happen? Why did my pH go from a steady 8.2 all the time every time to 7.0-6.8? Is that even possible? That's such a drastic drop off no? I couldn't get into this all with my buddy because he was driving to Michigan to visit friends.
So I'd like to know what could have caused this.
Your thoughts?
Thanks,
Dino
