Hi,

We've had our tank up and running for around 6 months.

Two months ago, we purchased 10 neons and 1 male guppy.

Around 2 weeks later, the guppy died.

In the couple of days leading up to his death, he was hiding in a corner with chunks of his tail missing.

We suspected this to be bullying from other fish.

But in the last couple of weeks, we have had 2 guppies die. 3 are extremely sick. We have quarantined the sick fish as soon as we noticed strange behaviours or fin rot. And 1 Bristlenose Catfish has also died.

The symptoms of the sick guppys are;

Rotting Tail
Blood around face, and tail
Bloating
Dark Eyes

The Bristlenose catfish died in a corner - no signs of rotting.

We have been to our local pet store (different place from where we got the - we assume - infected guppy) and was told to get some Wardley Fungus Aide.

Anyone else have this problem before?

Any Advice?

What are all of your parameters? How big is the tank? I suspect the answer to your question can be found in the answers to these ones

Thanks for the quick reply!

We have a 4 ft tankof around 200l. using api freshwater test kit:
Ammonia <25ppm
Nitrites 0
Nitrates <40ppm
Ph around 7.2
Temperature at 24-26 degrees Celsius.
We did have 5 guppies that we used to establish the tank. That number now is 3 sick (not including the 30 fry from the guppies before they showed signs of illness)
6 swordtails looking good, and a Chinese algae eater busy around the tank. Our remaining pleco seems happy, maybe even happier without the bigger one about.

We have treated as of last night with fungus ade or similar (at work so I can't remember the exact name) have removed the carbon media to allow this to be effective.

Try to keep the nitrates and ammonia at 0. Any higher than 20 on the nitrates can cause a lot of stress and diseases. Remember 0. Everything else looks ok.

Thanks for the advice guys, we lost our guppies, but saved the tank with a general bacterial treatment. No sign of it affecting any other fish
