Please identify this white stuff (algae?)

These white things are only growing on the glass, skimmer, and power head. I can't find anything on Google that resembles it. I don't have a magnifying glass, but to my naked eye they are not moving so I'm almost sure it's algae. My nitrates are at 40, everything else is at 0. I'm getting ready to do a 50% water change (I use RO water from Walmart). Tank is about 8 months old 29g, however I added about 10lbs of lr about a month ago.
 
This are sponges. Common name for them is either pineapple sponge or q-tip sponge. They are harmless filter feeders. My sump is full of them
